16th April saw the Golf Society at The Buckinghamshire for our Spring Meeting which is really the first of our Members meetings. The Buckinghamshire is a great venue for a golf event as it boasts a good golf course that isn't too testing and a clubhouse that is ideally set-up for socialising. Before the golf got underway, I was able to present a coach to a school for autistic children in North West London. The coach was presented on behalf of all the members of the Golf Society.
The weather on the day was glorious and hopefully is a portent of the weather to come over the 2008 season. Our Captain Jerry Stevens joined us on the day and enjoyed the company of sponsor, Eddy Garty who confessed that his golf 'could have been a lot better.' Scoring from the early starters wasn't too good and indeed it looked as though the winning score might be quite low. However, things certainly improved as the afternoon wore on with new member Michael Scott being the eventual winner with 37 points beating Tom Hilliard (35) and Andrew Wilding (35) in second and third place.
Dinner was a most enjoyable occasion with Eddy presenting the prizes to winners who all seemed much smaller than our powerful ex-Para. Michael Scott made an excellent acceptance speech in which he said how moved he had been by the 2 coach presentations he had seen and how much he admired the work of the Charity. The traditional ballsweep proved a good test of the Director's throwing ability and even more so of the catching ability of the members. The Buckinghamshire bar proved an excellent watering hole for the evening with many of the members staying on to enjoy the evening sunshine. A most enjoyable day was had by all.
