The 25th Poppleton and Appleby Golf Classic at St. Pierre was an outstanding success. We were blessed with beautiful sunshine, a challenging golf course and a group ready to enjoy themselves. The Sunday night dinner was a most enjoyable social occasion with many old friends meeting up for the first time in a year. President Jimmy Tarbuck thanked the hosts for 25 years of wonderful support for the Charity and Bobby Davro ensured that everyone present had a hilarious and entertaining evening.
There were some jaded looks on the Monday morning but all the golfers arrived at the allotted time and some even seemed glad to be there! 19 teams took on the course with the winning team being captained by Willie Thorne. They scored a very creditable 90 points with Willie winning the celebrity prize with 38 points. The second team was led by Ian Irving and third place went to the team of Ian St. John. After the golf we presented coach number 46 from P & A with a firm commitment from Martin, Andy and Matt to keep going for number 50.
