On an exceptionally windy day in mid November the Golf Society held their inaugural Pairs Event at The Addington Golf Club in Croydon. The leaves were covering the fairways and a sharp eye was needed to see where your ball had landed, and I feel many a member and guest went home with a lighter bag than they had arrived with.
Despite the wind, some good scores were recorded in this betterball event with the winning score of 44 points coming from a late replacement pairing of Vice Captain Ian Irving and "our Sue", who fielded off much banter from the guys at the prize giving. In second place with 42 points was Tony Negal and Russell Watson, followed by Andrew Wilding and Mark Tomkinson with 41 points.
Everyone tucked in to a delicious dinner and then adjourned to the bar to talk about the missed putts and wayward drives, but all were determined to test their skills again next year.
