A beautiful April day set the scene for a most enjoyable Captain's Day at Walton Heath. 90 members were in attendance to see new Captain Jerry Stevens tee off the 2008 season. The day could not have been better for golf as the day wore on, so the scores started to improve with everyone extolling the virtues of this great golf course and the weather. The terrace at Walton Heath looks over their gardens and was soon full with people enjoying the afternoon sunshine and discussing 'what might have been'. A coach presentation was made to a Respite centre in Brent with the coach being presented in Jerry's name thanks to the generosity of Alfie Ezekiel and Gavin Wilding.
Dinner was a lively affair with much banter and good humour. Neil Bookatz, our generous sponsor entertained the company with a typical speech - no-one being too sure what he was talking about but all appreciating his generosity and commitment to the Charity. Jerry made his Captain's speech and said how proud he was to be the Captain of the Society he has been associated with for so many years.
The prize winners on the day received their rewards from Jerry and Neil. Richard Upton was the winner of the Silver Division with 40 points and Paul Saunders the winner of the Bronze Division with 41 points. Chris Hurst successfully defended his Scratch title with a gross score of 75. Other good scores were fielded by Mike Spanswick, Richard Wigg, Lol Green and Malcolm Clark, while one or two who will remain nameless - Eddy Garty and Tony Negal for example, had less good days.
A good number of the members retired to the bar after dinner where amongst other things, David Redfearn entertained us with more of his extraordinary magic. A great day and a great night were had by all. Bring on the Spring Meeting.
