The 2010 Captain Ian Irving drilled his opening tee shot straight on to the 1st green at Walton Heath to get his year in office off to the best possible start. Or at least that is what happened in his dreams. The reality wasn’t quite so good as our man in red and white topped his shot some 30 yards. Ian laughed it off and sent his second on to the green to wild applause from the assembled crowd.

78 members turned out for Captain’s Day and a great time was had by all. We presented a Sunshine Coach to Manor School in North London, enjoyed good weather throughout the day and socialised late in to the evening. The dinner included a witty operatic cabaret which was enthusiastically welcomed by all. Neil Bookatz thanked everyone for the support he had been given during his 4 years as sponsor and Ian Irving hoped that all members would enjoy their golf over the coming season.

Out on the golf course, John Campbell defended his Silver Division Trophy and once again recorded the best Scratch score. 38 points and a gross of 77 was excellent golf on a tricky day at Walton Heath. Lol Green and Michael Dick finished behind John with 36 and 35 points respectively. In the Bronze Division, Gary Fisher was the deserved winner with 40 points  beating Ray Clemence with 38 points in to second place. Ray made his first and second Eagle in the round – what better time to do it. Frank Wenstrom was third with 37 points. John Campbell is cut from 7 to 6 and Gary from 21 to 18.
