Jack Stovold completed the London Marathon in 3 hours, 21 minutes and in doing so has raised around £4,800 for the Charity. Jack is a University student studying Physiotherapy and this was his first London Marathon but second in total. Having set a target time of 3 hours 30 minutes, Jack was delighted to come in under target and said that he had found the who experience really rewarding.
The crowd support all the way was a huge help and he described running up The Mall as 'truly awesome.' After the event was over, Jack met up with some of the children who Variety are supporting and the picture below shows 4 of the kids with one wearing Jack's Marathon medal. Jack is incredibly grateful to all the members of the Golf Society who sponsored him on his run.
Looking back to 2007
Golf Society member Michael Dick volunteered to play 100 holes of a golf in a day and in so doing raised £15,000 for Variety Club and £15,000 for Cancer Research. A remarkable achievement by any standards!
Monday 18th June was the selected day which dawned miserably wet and remained so for the entire 100 holes. Michael’s epic started at 3.50am at Kingswood Golf Club and by 7.30 he had completed 36 holes in a very passable 177 shots. A short car journey up to Walton Heath Golf Club for the next 36 holes saw Michael playing another 192 shots and meeting only 8 other golfers by the time he had finished there at 12.40. Then it was back to Kingswood for the final 28 holes in the company of his faithful caddy who by this time had lost the will to live!!
A hot shower and celebratory drinks revived all the necessary areas and Michael was able to look back on a significant day and a huge contribution to the welfare of those children supported by the Charity.
