Why Sunshine Coaches?

Giving children the chance to explore a bigger, brighter world.

The Variety Club Golfing Society was formed in 1965 with the very clear objective of raising funds which allow us to purchase Sunshine Coaches.

The first Sunshine Coach was presented in the UK in 1962 by the Variety Club Children's Charity.

Since then over 4,300 have been provided to organisations such as special schools, childrens hospices and respite care centres working with sick, disabled and disadvantaged youngsters.

Sunshine Coaches open up a world of possibilities for children. Each minibus travels about 70,000 miles in its lifetime, taking its young passengers on trips for education, leisure, sports and fun that would otherwise be denied to them, including Outward Bound trips, Riding for the Disabled, essential therapy sessions and shopping trips.

Sunshine Coaches are presented to schools and care centres looking after sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.

Some 40 years from its inception, the Society has gone from strength to strength and in 2006 raised just over £1M and presented 46 coaches.

Variety Club is grateful for the support of many generous individuals, companies and organisations that help us to get Sunshine Coaches on the road, but more help is always needed because more applications for Sunshine Coaches arrive every day.
